Andalusia, AL (December 30, 2008) – This past year was an exceptionally busy one for the Covington County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Chapter workers and volunteers responded to more than 40 local disasters – most of them house fires – and four national disasters, including one that brought more than 100 evacuees into Covington County in September.
House fires, tornadoes, Hurricanes Gustav and Ike, and the Wisconsin Floods – all of these touched Covington County in some way. But, it wasn’t all disasters for our chapter. In fact, 2008 saw the second Taste of Covington County bring more than 600 people together to sample some of the finest foods in Covington County in April. In September, the chapter sponsored its first ever bowling tournament – Strike It Red! – with more than 20 teams bowling their socks off to raise funds for the chapter.
The Chapter also secured its long-awaited mobile feeding unit – and a much needed chapter response van.
Yes, it was a busy year – and a great year. Take a moment and look at some of the highlights of our chapter’s activity.
