Did you know that you can keep up with the Covington County Chapter of the American Red Cross in many ways – not just the telephone and mail?
That’s right! The Covington County Chapter has a large presence on the Internet – from its web page right here – to Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and You Tube.
“Let’s face it, people are more mobile and tech savy than ever before,” said Jeffery Biggs, executive director of the Covington County Chapter. “In order to reach as many people as possible, the chapter has its very on Facebook page, Twitter feed, and Flickr and You Tube channels.”
Citing the importance of evolving to meet the needs of its service area, Biggs noted the relevance of the use of social media.
“As the Red Cross moves forward into the 21st Century, it is constantly seeking out ways to attract new volunteers, donors, and partners,” he said. “One of the ways we can do this is by embracing the world of social media. Our organization – as a whole – has embraced social media on a grand level, and our chapter is one of the early adopters of the technology. I invite everyone to follow our updates on all of the sites.
“One of the biggest pros to using social media is the speed with which we can get information out to our communities,” Biggs continued. “We can send instant information via Twitter, post fun events, facts, and opportunities on Facebook, and we can let everyone see what we’ve been doing via YouTube and Flickr. The possibilities are endless.”
